Brighton shock: Film poster pier is a fake.(News)

THE reviews have been a little lukewarm and now it appears the movie remake of Brighton Rock is coming under fire from another direction.

For angry residents of Brighton are miffed that the pier featured on the movie's publicity posters isn't theirs - it's Eastbourne's.

Producers of the movie, based on Graham Greene's 1939 crime novel and starring Dame Helen Mirren and Sam Riley, say Brighton Pier, with its arcades and rollercoaster, was too modern for their purposes - even though they have updated the story to the 1960s.

So they used Eastbourne Pier instead.

But disgruntled fans took to internet forums to complain. One called yorkie44 said: 'What a great advert for Brighton when filming has to be done in another town.' Another added: 'They should rename the film Eastbourne Rock.' Paul Webster, the film's producer, said Brighton was 'such a busy place and the pier has been entirely modernised'.

He added: 'It was a nobrainer once we saw East -bourne, which has a pier and a seafront entirely in period. Nobody worries Trainspotting is set in Edinburgh but was shot mainly in Glasgow.'
